Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner & Nico Muhley are currently touring the world with their collaborative “Planetarium” song-circle-concert-project-thing that celebrates our solar system. it came to the Barbican in London around my birthday but unfortunately I found about it too late and was bummed.
basically they’ve composed a song or a ‘piece’ for each planet, the sun and the moon. it’s pretty conceptually ambitious but they are all formidable talents respectively, each with a whole bunch of elaborate “conceptually-specific” composition projects in their back-catalogues already; so it’s pretty interesting stuff. I’m digging it.
‘Neptune’ is the opening planet from their set and the recording is taken from their performance at the Het Muziektheater theatre in Amsterdam on April 8th of this year.
watched this last night. it’s basically a collection of witnesses presenting evidence that is more credible than what you’d usually find in a UFO documentary. former governors, generals, pilots, presidents, MOD officials; that sort of thing.
it’s quite convincing.
